Christian Hafner leads Groth & Co’s patent department with a focus on quality, development, and strategic innovation advisory. As a patent attorney with a background in mechanics, medical technology, electronics, and control systems, he has extensive experience in technical fields such as building and machine components, materials science, household appliances, and robotics – as well as medical devices like implants and instruments for minimally invasive procedures.
In addition to his role as a patent attorney, Christian is a trusted advisor on patent-related matters. He supports companies in developing and implementing effective patent strategies, identifying protection needs, and avoiding infringement through novelty searches and Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analyses. He also assists with valuation, oppositions, and portfolio development – always with the goal of turning technology into business value and strengthening clients’ competitive edge.
Driven by innovation and entrepreneurship, Christian has founded a renewal platform tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises and served as Product Manager for an AI business within intellectual property. In that role, he led a team of engineers and developers in creating solutions based on large language models (LLMs).
At Groth & Co, Christian also leads the firm’s AI initiatives, leveraging his experience in applied LLM technology to streamline searches, drafting, and portfolio analysis – with customer benefit, precision, and innovation at the core.
With international experience from Sweden, Switzerland, and China, and as a former lecturer in patent strategy at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Christian provides advisory services that combine technical insight, strategic thinking, and a truly global perspective.
