(Publ. 30 SEP 2021) On September 28th, the United Arab Emirates joined the Madrid Protocol, becoming the 109th member of the Madrid System. The treaty for the United Arab Emirates will enter into force on December 28th, 2021.

The Madrid system (Madrid Protocol) for the international registration of trademarks is the primary international system for facilitating the registration of trademarks in multiple jurisdictions around the world. The advantage of this system is that it is possible to apply for trademark protection through one administrative process which is also more cost-effective.
