(Publ. 5 OCT 2021) UNICEF, the UN Children’s Fund, has decided to establish its new innovation centre in Stockholm, Sweden. The head office will, in collaboration with the Swedish business community and expert authorities, gather innovators to develop and invent new solutions to, together with children, promote children’s rights and well-being in the world, according to UNICEF.

By locating the centre in Sweden, UNICEF will have access to, and can build collaborations with, Sweden’s innovation ecosystem. This means the opportunity to collaborate with the Swedish business community, develop partnerships with The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and other actors in the innovative development cooperation and the opportunity to take part in Sweden’s outstanding work with high-tech solutions for children. Swedish development cooperation is based on innovative solutions, from digitalization to high-tech development to strengthen rights and fight poverty.

The innovation office in Stockholm, which is expected to have about a hundred employees, will be surrounded by an ecosystem of smaller innovation hubs located around the world.
