(Publ. 2 MAR 2021) On February 24th, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan joined the Madrid Protocol, becoming the 108th member of the Madrid System. The treaty for Pakistan will enter into force on May 24th, 2021.

The Madrid system (Madrid Protocol) for the international registration of trademarks is the primary international system for facilitating the registration of trademarks in multiple jurisdictions around the world. The advantage of this system is that it is possible to apply for trademark protection through one administrative process which is also more cost-effective.
