We at Groth & Co have the pleasure of representing Moonlighting Industries AB - the start-up company that, via the founder Miko Lazic, has developed an AI-based distance meter, Moon Smart Focus, which continuously measures the distance to the eyes of all actors.
The tool is a smart assistant in the challenging work of getting the sharpness perfect. In traditional film recording, it is the so-called B photographer who is responsible for focus-pulling and sharpness based on actors and cameras moving according to predetermined tape markings. It requires good planning, accurate measurements, good timing, and outstanding precision to manage the risks of retakes or missed acting performances. With the new tool, the distance measurements take place continuously, which reduces time for measurements, frees up time for acting and enables improvisation and creative camera work. Productivity and the proportion of sharp film material increases significantly, which is appreciated in times of increasing time pressure.
Moon Smart Focus has today begun to be used in large-scale television and film productions, including in SVT's "The Crown Prince who disappeared", Lars von Trier's "The Kingdom Exodus" and Marvel productions in London and LA.
Groth & Co's patent consultant Ulf Kärn has represented Moonlighting Industries in their patent. Patents have been granted in Sweden, the USA and China, and applications are pending in Europe and India. Attorney at Law, Karin Crafoord, Groth & Co, assists with legal advice regarding contractual issues and brand management.
