(Publ. 3 OCT 2019) On September 27th, Malaysia joined the Madrid Protocol, becoming the 106th member of the Madrid System. The treaty for Malaysia will enter into force on December 27th, 2019.
The Madrid system (Madrid Protocol) for the international registration of trademarks is the primary international system for facilitating the registration of trademarks in multiple jurisdictions around the world. Today, there are 93 members including the EU. The advantage of this system is that it is possible to apply for trademark protection through one administrative process which is also more cost-effective.
