(Publ. 11 DEC 2015) On December 7, Laos (LPDR) joined the Madrid Protocol and by that became the 97th member of the Madrid System. The relevant treaty will enter into force on March 7th, 2016.

This system provides trademark owners with the possibility to apply for trademark protection through one specific administrative process in 113 jurisdictions around the world. Since the application can be filed for several countries and in one single language, and payment only has to be made for one set of fees in one currency, the process has become very cost-effective.
