(Publ. 7 FEB 2013) Swedish companies have a long history in India that dates back to 1903. The relationship between Sweden and India is growing steadily and companies in both countries are identifying new business opportunities to work with each other. It is important therefore to understand the intellectual property landscape in India and be prepared to overcome the challenges in this unique country.

Groth & Co visited India to attend the INTA Seminar “Trademark Practice Trends in India” and were represented by Mats Lundeberg, European Trademark Attorney, and Molly Baxi, Indian Trademark Attorney. Groth & Co were also the Gold Sponsors of this event. Below you can see some photos from the event.

It was a two day seminar and it covered a broad range of topics and featured guest speakers from both Indian and international corporations as well as trademark offices.

The first day provided attendees with the opportunity to share knowledge and discuss local and international developments in trademark practices in small groups and was followed by a session on optimizing business strategies in India.

On Day 2, Mr. Chaitanya Prasad, India’s Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, gave a brief history of Indian trademark laws and described the efforts taken by the Registry to implement the Madrid System in India. Thereafter, the focus shifted on to modern day threats and opportunities created by the internet and was followed by a discussion on the various forms of alternative dispute resolution available in India and its benefits.

The seminar provided us with deep insight into the Indian trademark laws and practices and also gave us a wonderful opportunity for networking with our Indian colleagues. Have a look at the photographs from the seminar>>
