(Publ. 9 AUG 2019) Facebook’s subsidiary Calibra, which will launch its own crypto currency, has produced a logo that is rejected by the new US bank Current and believes it is too similar to their own.
Through Calibra, the technology giant will launch the crypto currency Libra, which is to be directly linked to Facebook to easily trade in their and others’ apps with a unified global currency. Current also has features similar to those intended for Libra. For example, Current’s mobile app offers easy transfer of money to friends, just as will be possible with Facebook’s new crypto currency.
Both parties seem to have worked with the same design company and Facebook has been criticized for having recycled Current’s logo for Calibra. The bank should now investigate if there is a basis for a trademark infringement.
