(Publ. 4 JUL 2019) On July 2nd, Brazil joined the Madrid Protocol, becoming the 105th member of the Madrid System. The treaty for Brazil will enter into force on October 2nd, 2019.

The Madrid system (Madrid Protocol) for the international registration of trademarks is the primary international system for facilitating the registration of trademarks in multiple jurisdictions around the world. Today, there are 92 members including the EU. The advantage of this system is that it is possible to apply for trademark protection through one administrative process which is also more cost-effective.
