Meryl Streep wants to trademark her name

The American actress Meryl Streep has filed a trademark application for her own name; Meryl Streep. The application was filed to the US Patent and Trademark Office on January 22, 2018, and refers to entertainment services, movies appearances, speaking engagements and autographs.

Meryl Streep is an American actress who has played in the films such as Iron Lady, Mamma Mia!, The Devil Wears Prada, Sophie’s Choice and the Bridges of Madison County. She made her screen debut in 1977 and holds the record for most Oscars nominations in the actor category.

Meryl Streep has not made a statement on the intended use for her trademark application. However, if the application leads to registration, she will have the exclusive right to use the term Meryl Streep in the United States in the areas to which the application relates.

It is not uncommon that American celebrities file trademark applications. Singer Taylor Swift has submitted about 60 trademark applications in the last 10 years. Applications include lyrics and phrases from her music and are applied for clothes, assessors and notebooks.
